yabba dabba doo!

Ok, I'm about to start costume-ing up. So pumped. I cannot believe I just went and bought so much make-up at CVS. I just didn't have bubble gum pink-esque make-up, and that just would not do...

Yep, I'm going as Pebbles this year. I cannot remember the last time I wore any costume which necessitated wearing a wig. This isn't just any wig... it's a wig WITH a bone haha. Should be fun.

So yes, it's close to time to dress up. Very exciting. Sassy's going as a naughty fire fighter. Haha. We'll be repeating our looks for Tuesday's parties. Too bad that we're going to have to miss all the cute little kids all over Capitol Hill. Maybe next year...

Hope you all have a fabulous Saturday before Halloween!

i buttle, sir.

Well, I'm wrapping up some things in the office now before heading to meet a friend for dinner. I'm having Monday evening A.D.D. at it's finest and needed to take a brief break. Why not ramble about my weekend, right? I feel like I'm still in it for sure. The original plan was to catch up on sleep from the long weekend prior from our housewarming party. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have gone astray...

Saturday night was a long night. I'll admit, it was soooo tempting to bail out on doing anything, but somehow I managed to stick to the original plan an head with Sarah to two parties. Perhaps it was my love of the movie Clue, the theme of the second party, that got me out the door (I don't care what ANYONE says. Clue's a cinematographic masterpiece. Brilliant... haha). Whatever it was, it worked. So much fun! Definitely didn't plan on getting home after 3:30. Ooops how does that seem to keep happening? Oh well. There was even some dancing involved -- how often does that happen? Props to our neighbors. Sassy and I weren't super Clue-themed. We went for sort of upscale dinner party attendees. Hope we managed to pull that off. They had people there all done up though, which was pretty cool.

I definitely wasn't ready for Monday. I think the weekends are getting smaller with each additional one that passes. Is that possible? Or is it just that we need another long weekend? I think it's probably the later... perhaps it's my envy of not getting Columbus Day or Veteran's Day. Just hanging on for Thanksgiving and the additional holiday time off I'll be taking to head to good ol' Sweet Home Alabama. It'll be my first return visit since my family left the house I grew up in. It'll be so weird to come home to a different "home". I think I've said it before, but it definitely reinforces what I definitely have seen as the truth as of late, which is that home as you get older is all about the people and definitely not the location and especially building (house) so much. I'll be coming back the Monday morning after Thankgsiving and walking straight into the office (6:30 AM flight I believe?) so I'm definitely maximizing my holiday time there!

I worked on getting together my Halloween costume. Last year it was just one Halloween party. Now, it's something like three different ones? What a great predicament! I had a last minute change in costume since my original idea was becoming a bit pricey. I've put it on the back-burner though to use for next year. I figure it can be a lot less expensive with a little more planning. What's everyone else going as???

I don't know that I agree on this... hmmmm... and now I'm REALLY going to bed. What am I doing here? Seriously... haha.

oh so close...

It's a miracle... I think the light at the end of the tunnel is drawing near. Alas, the cleaning of the last weeks upon weeks upon weeks has not been in vain. Oh no, no! The Domestic Goddess and I've been slowly plugging away at the cleaning left to do, and I think we're almost to the end. Some of the things that we'd been putting off are now done and I think we're going to meet our drop dead date of Saturday (nothing like a little housewarming party to put on the pressure, right? haha).

We went and bought all the party supplies yesterday at Costco... we're so set. We picked up cheese, chips, etc. and a ton of Oktoberfest beer (why not? we figured it could be sorta like a joint housewarming and Oktoberfest celebration... too bad I don't do beer, but I can appreciate the festive nature of the concept at least). Now we just have to get the last odds and ends out of the way, and we'll be good to go.

Today, I'm going to tackle the last of the leaves and such on the front and back porch areas. I spoke to our landlords yesterday so we will (1) shortly have a front porch light (no minor feat for sure) and (2) shortly have functioning back lights now that I understand how to run the wiring. I tell you, a house is a whole different animal from an apartment. Even if the square footage isn't that much more (which isn't the case for us), I think you'd get all the same additional complications. So much more! But likewise, we're getting so much more, so no compliant... just mere observation haha.

I'm energized from the excellent waffles the DG whipped up from us, so back to the organizing. Hope you guys had a great weekend! If you're off tomorrow, I'm jealous for sure... think of me as you roll over, as I'll be long gone. I have an early AM flight out of National -- that's my Columbus Day present from the Firm haha. Enjoy!

wwf music, autos, and halloween around the corner

I feel like I haven't posted here in ages... too much has been going on. I'll try to catch up. I've still yet to really post on ACL. Oh well! Anyhow, the weekend was good. I did a couple of volunteer activities with JLW. First was the National Book Festival down on the Mall. Not too bad, but it was pretty chilly in the morning and was raining, which made it a little rougher. I was working an info tent, rolling posters to distribute to the attendees. I did have a nice arena-side type view for the chaos surrounding these hideous C-SPAN bags. I thought there was going to be blood drawn. Crazy!

Sunday was the second one, which was my community experience. I helped out with putting on a dinner at the N Street Village. That was really neat. It's housing for women in transition. They have to be accepted into the program and are working to get their lives turned around. That night, there were several who were celebrating anniversaries for the length of time they'd been clean and sober. It was really special to be included in this group as they were so openly sharing about their lives. One was so excited and moved that she broke into song and dance about how she'd been blessed. It really made me think how easy it could be to make a decision that would throw off the track of your life. There are so many things we really do take for granted.

Is it really just Monday? Man, today felt long! It did help that I had some excellent music to make it through the day. I finally got around to listening to some more discs from the new Tori box set. Now I'm just patiently waiting for new tour dates to be announced (and saving my vacation days haha...).

I finally went and got my first round of groceries post-move. So happy they've actually opened a Trader Joe's in the District. I'm not the only one though. The line was insane. I'm hoping though that today's excursion is close to marking an end of an era. Hopefully, no more metro rides with groceries by my side. Can you say car, here I come? Should be two weeks (or less) and counting

Speaking of which, I'm headed out tomorrow to finalize the deal. Honestly, I feel like I'm 16 all over again! I'm excited though. I've decided on a
Honda Fit. Should prove to be small enough for a newbie to city driving like myself. Parallel street parking, here I come! I'm definitely going to get a crash course.

Yeah, so my roommates and I are looking forward to our first Halloween in an actual house! We've got some candy and are curious to see how many kids end up out and about for Halloween on the Hill. Should be fun. I guess first thing to do though is get everything organized and ready to go for our upcoming housewarming party. Only two weeks away now... she'll be ready though, purple door and all!
